Its 7 th May, 4 th phase of 15th Loksabha elections have finished today and its amazing to see 1/10 of humankind going to vote and select its government. What is more intriguing is that the country is sitting on a volcano as it is surrounded by two countries which are just looking for a beeline to strike the country as hard as they can. But even amidst all these circumstances the country is going ahead with its polls keeping its status of the Biggest Democratic country alive.
I seriously feel privileged to be a part of such a democracy and I owe this to the people of this country who, after 61 yrs. Of failed governance, still have faith in the system. Well it may sound as an exaggeration when I quoted it being a failed system but if a country replenished with abundant resources is still having almost 40 % of people living in abysmal abject conditions then only a failed system can annotate the state of the country. So should we leave democracy????? The answer is no. B’coz the fallacy is not democracy. Actually, The democratic status of our country is manifested only at the time of elections. Apart from that , what we have is an aberration of democracy. Democracy was defined as Government of the people, by the people for the people but sadly the fag end of the definition is lost in our case. Now governance is no more for the people.
In these elections I heard through various channels that this is a transition phase for the country’s politik. I have been hearing the notions of replacing the gerontocracy status of our democracy by inoculation of young blood into the governance. But this time the drumbeats were more fierce. And I thought may be this is time for change. After the Mumbai Blasts I was sure that some radical change is going to happen this time. But to my dejection, the chances are not looking very bright for any change.
The upheaval caused by the public sentiments made everyone including me believe that we have arrived at the brink of something bohemian and some mavericks are going to come around. But the turnout in Mumbai elections took all that positive vibes away. Now, the wait got lengthen by 5 more years.
Last day I heard Shobha de saying that youngters aren’t having any leader who can inspire them. So, what are youngters looking for???? Actually we are fade uo of our political system. I love two party system but in India even that doesn’t look like working well. So what s the solution??? Even I don’t know, but I thought may be an initiative to combine the youth and bring them all on a single forum where they actually know about the political systems, kind of governance different parties have given them, what are the need of the country, flaws of every government and many such things that will at least create their interest in country politics. The reason behind is also a voice within me which says that my generation does not have faith in indian politics. Its true butthat doesn’t mean that we will leave the country in the rapacious hands of these depraved politicians. So I urge you all to come forward and search for new answers. I will keep you all updating on the issues that concern we all.
